The International James Joyce Symposium

Across the waters: XXIX International James Joyce Symposium
The University of Glasgow is hosting the 29th International Joyce Symposium (14-19 June, 2024). It celebrates the life and work of James Joyce. Glasgow was an important city for Joyce, as it was the first city he saw outside of Ireland and also where his last book, Finnegans Wake, was printed. The symposium is a chance for scholars and fans of Joyce to come together and discuss his literature. This event shows that Joyce's legacy is still very much alive and appreciated today, 130 years after his first visit to Glasgow. James Joyce Italian Foundation Conference
Held annually in Rome, this conference focuses on Joyce's connection to Italy and features international scholars presenting research on various aspects of Joyce's work.

Bloomsday Celebrations
Although not a symposium in the traditional academic sense, Bloomsday (June 16th) is an annual celebration of Joyce and his novel "Ulysses," marked by events worldwide. The largest of these celebrations occurs in Dublin, where the novel is set. Activities typically include readings, performances, academic discussions, and reenactments of events from the novel.

The Zürich James Joyce Foundation Workshop
Held annually in Zurich, where Joyce is buried, these workshops are a significant event for Joyce scholars. They typically focus on specific aspects of Joyce’s work. Apart from this yearly event, the Foundation also organizes seminars, meetings, workshops and reading groups.

Every year, the end of June, the Trieste Joyce School offers a vivid program of lectures and seminars on Joyce's works. North American James Joyce Conference
